ABRIDGEMENT

At one of the greatest scales of abridgement the technique  is to
render the original material ersatz, creating complexity.

Next, there is the theory of translation or interpretation, creating
doubles which do not literally complexify everything.

Next, it may be possible to keep or refurbish the original text
similar to how it already was presented.

Then, there are ways to find a synopsis of the text to abbreviate
its significance. A synopsis may be close to the same length, like
a translation, or take the form of an abstract that serves the
purpose of explaining the function and content of the material.

Finally, there is a technique of using 'souls' and perhaps keeping
only the souls, or only the most essential information, like a
bulleted list.

Next, there may be a way to capture just the title, or just
information by one index or another, rather than a complete
description.
