INFLECTICS / INFLECTIONISM

In certain cases the marks made in relation to a preexisting field
will have a particular formal character, for example in music
notation, or in editorial marks upon a line graph.

Marks such as the following have a prescribed significance:

/.../ Representing a break in a continuous pattern of data.

" "   " "   Repetition of previous lines or data.

                            Grace notes suggesting a particular
                             musical or logical interpretation

It is these types of notations that are meant by inflection.

The science of all such intermediate yet applied symbols may be
called inflectics.
